We went through a quick interview with Karlo “Prydzz” Wenz Gavranović, player for T3H esports currently participating in Challenger League EU season 8.

Hello Karlo, thank you for taking time to talk with us.
Can you give us a little introduction, few sentences about yourself?

I am Karlo Wenz Gavranović. I started siege in beta and at first I disliked the game a lot but during Year 1 of Siege after many updates, I came back and started to grind. My nickname…I didn’t steal it, I kind of copied one of my favourite DJs and stuck with the name.

Can you tell us more about the Croatian origin and flag that is on your ESL and Liquipedia profile?

My mother is coming from Dubrovnik, Croatia and father is from Ulm, Germany. Good part of my childhood I spent in Croatia and stuck with my mother and learned language.

Did you have any competitive experience from other games before Siege?

Yes, I did. I played Pro League in Modern Warfare 2 (team N7)  and Modern Warfare 3 (Team Caliber) on consoles. I also played CoD4 semi-professional on PC(Dignitas Academy).

How and when did you start with Siege? What teams did you play in before T3H esports? Are there any players that earned a special place in your heart?

My best friend “NoiiZe” from Belgrade got me heavily into Siege. I think I got pretty early into competitive Siege. Around in-game level 100 I played for team aAtex eSports. I was teammates with PARAA, Aranion and NoiiZe back then. Katsuro would be the special someone I remember. He taught me quite a lot about Siege and had influence on my playstyle.

Can you introduce us to your current team – T3H esports?

We qualified for Challenger League as Team Choose and played in German national Siege league – Six Lounge Series. We were offered contracts by a new organisation on scene – T3H esports. I think everyone thought that is a really risky move, to sign a contract with unknown organisation, but now..it’s the best thing we ever did!
Currently, we are playing in season #8 of Challenger League.

T3H went through few lineup changes – how do PARAA, Falko and Joghutzz fit into the team?

The biggest thing these players brought to the team is huge experience. Falko and Joghurtzz have Pro League titles behind themselves and they participated in many online and offline tournaments. They are like fatherly figures in team and they teach us many things, especially those “small”, unnoticeable things that can have big impact on us as a team. Although, we sometimes stumble upon problems while communicating. We are all using English comms, even though we are German/French lineup.

What is your role in the team?

Currently, I am playing as full support. I stick with this role back from the lineup that played under name “Team Choose”. I mostly stick with Thermite and Smoke and do most of the droning. I feel that I am not the best fragger and it’s better to leave that role to someone else. I also tried InGame leader role but currently Falko is the IGL.

Can you tell us more about your practice routines?

For me personally, I try to rewatch some VODs and stuff we set up and do a lot of T-hunt every day like 1 or 2 hours. I like to fit in some solo play like casual and ranked too, kind of “the usual” things everybody does. Before the matches we have, I like to close myself to everybody. Relax, listen to music, focusing to enjoy the game the most. As for the team, we are currently in bootcamp so we’re doing more stuff together. Initially we also had Kivvi as a coach but later we picked up a professional analyst with big experience in business.

Before signing contract with T3H, lineup fought through Challenger League qualifiers under name “Team Choose”. Currently, they are in danger of getting knocked out of Challenger League.

You are currently competing in CL and didn’t have best of the starts. Do you think you can change things by the end of the season? What were the expectations before the season?

We had really bad start into the League, although we kind of expected bad start because of the roster changes. We started with a good win against Trainhard but other matches we threw many leads and failed to secured the leads…we had really weird games. Before the season, we expected at least playoffs as we have really strong names on our lineup.

What do you think of current Pro League and Challenger League format? Who are you rooting for?

Currently, I think the league (round robin) system is good. We have plenty of matches but unfortunately they did not apply the same thing to Challenger League, so we have 3 month break. Also, BO1 isn’t the best system, while BO3 might take too long so I would prefer BO2 map system where teams could go for their best maps and if we had a draw, then we would have, In my eyes, a proper draw where each team won one map. We would still have the good stuff that people like to see such as overtimes.

I am rooting for CHAOS and G2. Secretly is a good friend of mine and we play a lot of games together out of Siege. G2 is one of the best teams…it’s a team that I would like to have myself aswell. Pengu would be the player I look up to. I know him since Year 1. I am one of the guys who read his post on reddit when he was searching for a team. That was all the way back in beginning of Siege when he wasn’t so popular as he is today. He claimed he was a good player and wanted to go Pro League and look at him now. He achieved so much in Siege.

What do friends and family think of you “Playing games” for a living?

My friends are standing behind me, they think it’s cool. Especially Noizze as we always dreamed of playing on higher level. My parents are not that supportive, though. They always criticize it, even during CoD times when we got decent prize money. My mom disconnected my internet plenty of times but during DreamHack, she turned on the stream and said “it’s ok as long you’re getting money”.

What are you expectations/wishes for 2019 in Siege?

I would love if Ubisoft would be able to somehow recreate the Engine of the game so we could have something like Counter Strike has – option to review matches, check through demos, analyze them and do much more. It would make life of players, coaches, casters and everyone much easier and better. About the current meta, I think Maverick is cool but shield on defence (Clash)…not sure about that idea. I feel like Ubisoft is missing some good ideas to put into the game.

If someone new to the game shows interest into competitive siege, what would be your advice?

There are lot of things that are available to players that were not available to us in the beginning. I would suggest to download basic maps, organize google docs folder with your team. Share info, in the beginning “copy” pro league stuff and strats and with time, create something special for your team, something that help individual gameplay of some players on the team. With time, you can find someone like a coach or analyst that could help out with different aspects of gameplay. But in the end, you can have strats and skills like G2, but it will mean nothing if you don’t have team chemistry. Their teamplay and communication is perfect, it’s like everyone is ready to die for everyone on the team. One player makes a decision and his teammates are not questioning that decision. You need to get rid of the ego problems and work as a team.
